"The Michael Mut Gallery is the headquarters for the Love Yourself Project and is gathering artists to spread a message of unconditional self-love, celebrating and empowering communities around the world.
The Love Yourself project organizes ongoing demonstrations in cities around the world. On Nov. 19, 2010, the Love Yourself team took to the streets and subways of New York City with signs saying “Love Yourself” and distributed over 500 “Love Yourself” stickers and hand-folded hearts. Citizens passed by with smiles and even joined in the efforts to spread love and loving messages.
Similar events have been held in Paris, Luxembourg, West Africa, Sarasota Florida and future scheduled events are planned for Australia, Holland, San Diego. These are the first of many demonstrations that will be taking place in cities worldwide in the coming months.
In May 2011, the gallery will feature pictures and video from these demonstrations as well as an interactive multimedia installation entitled 1,000 Hearts.
1,000 Hearts is collecting 1,000 hand-folded origami hearts from people all around the world. Participants write something that they love about themselves on a piece of paper and fold it into a heart. The hearts and messages will be presented both visually and aurally in the Michael Mut Gallery. As well, a different message from the project will be posted via Twitter every day for the next 1,000 days. We participated at the Rush Arts Educational Program in Chelsea with this concept and it was a huge success.
An extension of the Love yourself Project will reach out to the Girls Clubs in the Lower East Side and conduct a program called Passion for Fashion, where the theme of fashion is used to touch upon and teach young girls about identity, socialization, and self confidence...ultimately how to love themselves.
