How often are you the first among your friends to try something new?
All the time
What do you want people to know most about you?
I was born in Sheffield, England in 1965. My childhood was marked by the colourful explosion of American music and cultural influences that dominated English society in the 60's and 70's. This early influence of 20th century American art and iconic imagery, combined with an upbringing inspired by strong females such as Madonna, magazines such as The Face and ID, and a passion for fashion, come together to help me create work that is bold, expressive, textured and graphical. Music plays a huge role in my life and the use of gloss in my paintings has been likened to the vibrations of musical frequency.
My early artistic influences include Andy Warhol, Jean Michel Basquiat, Niki de Saint Phalle and Jackson Pollock. I became involved in the beginnings of the House music scene in London after graduating from art school in 1989 and have gone on to work in events production for over 20 years, doing arts production for clubs, fashion shows, exhibitions, theme parties and television. I also worked for a number of years as a commercial mosaic artist, producing designs for restaurants, bars and was featured on BBC Gardening Neighbours in 1999.
In 2006 I formed Thirteen Art Productions in Brighton and have gone on to conceptualise and produce a number of group-art exhibitions and events, most notably 100 Artists for World Aids Day in 2008-2010
I have been pursuing my love of art since 2002, exhibiting in Spain, London and Brighton.
I am a stand-up comic and since I joined this network, I have found that this is a great site to share your Art, post your Blogs, upload clips, photos, joining Groups and Forums. I hope you enjoy Brooklyn Art Project as much as I do. The best way to keep up with my daily high jinkery is on Twitter, my user name is: http://twitter.com/JaneyGodley
