Sung Uni Lee - Chef / New York City

1. What inspires you these days?

Commitment. I also think of it as focus or faith.

2. Who are your heroes?

My mother and father, of course. they are the clark kent or peter parker who never change out of their ordinary persona but always quietly powerful and generous.

3. What is your idea of perfect happiness?

Acceptance of the fact that even “bad days” are perfect. and of course, peace on earth, good will to all wo/man, creatures, & living things…every time I blow out the birthday candles, this is my wish.

4. What scares the hell out of you?

Oh my goodness. there is so much to be scared of out there. Newspapers & media have been scaring me because they assume responsibility to what the general public should feel is important. the machine has lost control! Oh yeah, genetically modified foods! argh!!!!!!

5. What makes you laugh hard?

My daughter. Her physical age is 6, but is on the cusp of turning 16 and 60 all at the same time.

6. Who are your favorite artists of all time?

Georgia o’keefe, J.W. Turner, Yoko Ono, Miriam Cabessa (she’s a personal friend & power house), and artists who do work because they have no other choice

7. What is your guiltiest pleasure?

Maybe eating late night, methodically, slowly. I say maybe because I haven’t been experiencing “guilt,” in the true sense of the word, lately. To have these two words to describe the same thing seems strange to me.

8. If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

My penchant to lose things…wallets, cameras, etc…

9. What’s your favorite thing in the world?

Trees.

10. What comes to mind when you think of Brooklyn?

Community. People who are invested in being where they are. And trees.
