Dance Brooklyn Choreographers Discuss Brooklyn’s Dance Community

FLICfest, a festival of new, evening length dance works, opened last Thursday. In the weeks before the festival opened I asked the participating choreographers, via e-mail, to talk about dancing in Brooklyn.

As choreographer Tami Stronach says, “The diversity of cultures and interests that are concentrated in this corner of the world — the many unique pockets that produce their own ambiance — is so special, and there is always more to discover… A creative pulse drives things.” Her own “creative pulse” is suppported by a network of community-based Brooklyn dance institutions. Exhibitions are attended by large numbers of artists — “because most of us live here,” notes Tanya
