"We can communicate and interact in ways that improve our existence with one another, and we should always challenge ourselves to make this so.” VC

Vincent Chandler is a Performance Artist, Activist, and Actor. His plays are often based on the real-life accounts of others.

Utilizing first-person narrative, interviews, oral histories, and other primary source materials Vincent conceives, writes, and performs pieces designed to create a dialogue about personal responsibility and public awareness of the problems that individuals and communities face today.

Born and raised in East LA, he relocated to San Francisco, CA in 1999 and earned a BA in Communication Studies with a concentration in Performance Studies from San Francisco State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. In 2004 he was selected a National Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholar for his academic and volunteer work with marginalized youth.

Vincent began his professional career in independent film with Star Maps, directed by Miguel Arteta, and in the HBO Film If These Walls Could Talk, directed by Cher. He supplemented his early artistic experience by working with Planned Parenthood Los Angeles for over five years as an HIV/AIDS Pre-Post Test Counselor and Medical Assistant. Vincent witnessed firsthand the benefits of open access to comprehensive sexual & reproductive health services and education. It was at Planned Parenthood that his desire to infuse theatre and performance with socio-political awareness was borne.

Currently he is in production of a 90-minute, one-person show. On a search for resiliency in everyday existence, he is collecting stories and personal narrative about prejudice, bias, and personal strength. The show will premiere in Spring 2008.

Language is a tool that can be used and misused.
And when a racial slur is said, much like a buzz saw or an axe, someone can get hurt.
Instead of fists, enlightenment. Instead of hatred, education.

My work has always centered around the words of others, performance based upon real life events. I love sitting back, listening to the words of others, especially around stories of personal strength and resilience in the face of… Continue
