Majestic & Mundane, a book of photographs by Sol Lang

"Sol Lang is a perceptive photographer of the usual and mundane. Lang uses found objects as his muse, but what he makes from what you and I would probably consider junk is astounding. He goes to places like an abandoned factory and takes photos where he “...likes to deal in contrasts, to enhance my images by revealing the same object closeup, at a medium distance and far away. I always take photos in series and use the design elements inherent in their very nature such as tire treads, bird… Continue

Open Source Photography - Deconstructing Sol Lang

I've been doing some homework for a project of mine called Open Source Photography. I decided to post this as a very informal deconstruction of one of the better photogs on Flickr. You can also check out a Q&A we did with Sol Lang a while back. He's an incredible talent and very accessible person.…

HI Sol, thanks for commenting on 'The Truth Reels'.
I'm a big admirer of the cartoon commentators. I draw as I feel it, but that's never enough is it? There's always more work to do to get the idea across.
Your photos are beautiful and difficult I think you tread the fine lines between voyeurism, eroticism and the idea very successfully. Like!

A very acute analysis. You get the Gestalt. Mike Bowdidge and I did a trade off collaboration. He put music to my HOMO NEUROTICA images - which you can see on the Artreview, com site and I in turn found images to express and explore this piece of music. The music was sacrosanct and could not be altered or cut - everything had to work around that. Problem being I'm really a painter and a 2D digital artist so Roger Mitchell kindly rescued the project with his deft editing skills. I'm glad you like it - you are on Artreview.com - you should check out Bowdidge's page - his music is great but he is also a strong visual artist with a knowing sense of wit and cunning. And his work makes me laugh - what more could you want?
