Art is your second career. How you decided to make this transition and when?

FR: After 17 years of banking my last job with Bank of America was Senior Group Operations Manager for the banks bankruptcy accounts nationwide, I was ready to make a drastic change so I quit in 1991 to pursue a career in art. One thing I took away from banking was the ability to understand the marketing and managing of my artwork.

What’s it like to be an art star?

GC: Ha! I wish! You mean the show Art Star. I auditioned on a total whim. I remember standing in line with my five paintings. Jeffrey Deitch hosted the show and the interview took place in his gallery during the Keith Haring exhibit. Talk about surreal!

The only self-portrait I've ever done is a painting of me as a baby eating a cookie in the back of her bug.

Currently, I am living in Melbourne, Australia, with my husband and 16 month old daughter. We moved here from… Continue

Where were you born and where do you currently reside?

JL: I was born in Brazil, in a small and backwards rural town, but it was there that I was lucky to absorb a love of nature because of my upbringing and spending a lot of time with my maternal grandparents' farm. I currently reside in San Francisco, the city that pulls me back when I try to spread my wings... I don't fully understand this love affair we have, me and this city, but I honor it.

How long have you been a…
