How often are you the first among your friends to try something new?
What do you want people to know most about you?
I want people to know that I am a pioneer in performance art in Finland where I was the first one to take performance art seriously. By this I mean that I was the first one to consider performance art as an independent medium beside the more conventional mediums in art. There seemed to be no room for such a standpoint in the machinery of social and cultural norms and rules in my country at the time. So, I had to make it and I'm still working on it. From my point of view the beauty of performance art lies in the same characteristics as the beauty of life: in its immateriality and ephemerality. I did my first performances in early 80s and have not quitted yet. I have performed in many countires and continents. I was the one who organized the first nation wide performance art festival in Finland (in 1999). It was open for anybody to perform whatever beyond conventional genres. In 2001 I organized Exit festival with the same concept but internationally. About 300 people came from 34 countries around the world. I respect life and my art follows.
