Links to participating artist's websites and previews of some of the work are on the website http://huimintsen.com/seekingart/bb.html

A Gallery of Asemic Writing/Art

On December 30th, 2009, A Gallery of Asemic Writing posted 12 images of my arti for viewing, at:http://thenewpostliterate.blogspot.com/

Asemic writing is a wordless open semantic form of writing. The word asemic means "having no specific semantic content".[1] With the nonspecificity of asemic writing there comes a vacuum of meaning which is left for the reader to fill in and interpret. All of this is similar to the… Continue

Dear Ms. Kazalia,

I would be honored to write an article for your blog. Any specific topic and also do you require a word count?

Thanks Marie. My focus generally favors artist either working somewhat outside of the mainstream or those who are inspired by outsider artists. I also am particularly interested in contemporary mixed media painting. The link between these two interests is that I want to see artists doing things which are unique. I already have quite a few artists in mind, but it can't hurt to see new work to add to the hopper of potential artists to include in group show proposals. Now that my solo show has finally opened in VA, I can start to turn my attention more to group show projects.

Formless imagery in a world that demands that we are defined by form and formality...bravo.

You ask a good question! Asemic writing or no? When we were working on this series I'd not heard of the term. Meaning was in the marks. I have Arab artist friends who use Arabic calligraphy as abstract or non literative imagery and I've been rather sceptical of that form precisely because as a non-Arabic reader, I will never know (without third party guidance) whether what I see has literal meaning or not. Michael Jacobson's terms 'asemic' and 'relative asemic' help, but only half help - definitions being good and a straightjacket at the same time.
best regards, K
