Yuri Leonov's series of works entitled "Remain" describes his coming to terms with Crohn’s disease.
One piece from this series will soon be on view in a group show, Love and Other Drugs. This exhibition showcases six New York artists' intimate infatuations externalized in a variety of mediums. Subjects range from the mundanely macabre to the awkwardly honest. The work shows an emergence from within, figuratively and literally. The viewer will find a fragmented body concealed within a picture plane, skeletal structure peeking out from behind an array of layers burying it, or a figure partially revealing itself while submerged in a liquid. Specific techniques are masterfully applied to reinforce this connection between the inner workings of the mind, and the surface of the artwork in a form of modeling, rendering, layering, and action oriented mark-making. Despite varying obsessions, each piece compliments the other, and altogether forms a cohesive, provocative group showing.
