Brooklyn Art Project

Hello everyone. I suspect this webpage is linked to hundereds of computers by which hundereds of artists sit, wanting to communicate and put their stuff on display. I am so intreagued!

I moved to NYC a month ago and I will be staying here until January 8th. I gave up persuing my master's degree in anthropology to dedicate myself to this passion of mine - art. But I have a problem. I don't know where or when or how to go to that place where I can meet other artists who love what I love. I went to L.E.S. and found mainly expensive shops and cafés. I went to Chelsea to discover a huge bundle of galleries all decorated with steel, concrete and white and art that didn't really got me anywhere.

I need space for painting and drawing - right now I'm scetching in cafés, bars, parks, staircases and subways.
I need inspiration and support when I feel like my work is worth nothing.

What do I do? Where do I go??

Ene.

Go the the Metropolitan Museum of Art - many times. There is so much to see there, take your sketchpad. Take the Animal Drawing Class at the Museum of Natural History - it is an excellent class and you get to be in the museum after hours. Hang out at Strawberry Fields, the Rubin Museum of Art, the resources here are endless, it's a great time for you to "prime the pump" fill your eyes with images, go watch belly dance, tango, the crazy guys selling counterfit stuff on Canal Street, and while you are there go the Pearl River Mart, all three floors. Walk a lot, go Ellis Island to get some perspective. have fun!
Hey Janet.

Tanks for the input, I appreciate it:-)
However, this is in a way what I'm already doing. Only I'm drawing and painting in other sites, but I need t be around other people also. People with whom I can share ideas and insights and all that stuff that keeps my brain functioning.
I guess what I need is an art space.

how about taking some classes at the art student's league? not expensive, many good artists to be with and study with.

Meetup.com has a lot of great artist groups that go on gallery walks and shows....
