walk down a busy street looking for a haircut on a warm Saturday
and hear the women talk about the price of ground meat and
the men who speak of football scores
or the party they went to or
the party they are going to and
it seems so natural but
just dealing with the barber can be tough
on a day I want only a trim yet
he talks about it all,
the neighbors and
the noise and
the traffic and
yet still I think
the conversation would work if
he would leave out references
to sports and church and
love and other words of terror.
