The Medgar Evers College Art Committee (MECAC), in conjunction with the Women’s Development Center, proudly presents “WOMAN: Multiple Energies-Multiple Images,” an artistic celebration in honor of Women’s History Month. The Opening Reception will be held on March 24, 2011 from 5:00 to 10:00 pm while the opening ceremony will be from 6:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Viewing of the art exhibit will continue until April 28 2011 from Monday to Thursday. These events will be held at Medgar Evers College's Academic Building (AB-1), 1638 Bedford Avenue, and are free and open to the public.
MECAC is proud to commemorate Women’s History Month with this exciting celebration featuring six women artists and fashion designer Keishel Williams, a Medgar Evers student. The visual artists are Dorothy Burnham, Chinwe, Minerva Diaz, Susann Hogue, Marion Howard, and Dindga McCannon.
Committee Chair Izell Glover said, “This exhibition is dedicated to all women for whom energy and image are a way of life. This exhibit by women artists is filled with images created from mental, physical and spiritual energy. Some of the works were born from deep pain which translated into artistic renditions to be enjoyed by many and are a catharsis to the artists, while other works came out of the need to document, to tell and share stories, and provoke questions. These women artists are to be commended for their talent and the truth depicted in their work. They bring to the audience their visual stories with multiple energies and multiple images.”
Medgar Evers College has long embraced the fine arts, hosting numerous art exhibits on campus and boasting several fine artists amongst its faculty and student body. Some of these artists, skilled in diverse mediums from sculpting to oil painting, have exhibited in galleries across the country and have garnered prestigious awards and accolades.
