Press Release – Seeking Kali Collective Art Exhibit
The Second Avenue Firehouse will host the international artist collective Seeking Kali during the month of August. William Evertson (USA), Susan Shulman (Canada) and Ria Vanden Eynde (Belgium) are pioneers in adapting the inherent possibilities of social media for artistic collaborations. Using Facebook, Google + and Skype as tools to create a united virtual studio they have connected their individual artistic practices to create performance, video art, graphic novels and artist editions. Their work focuses on archetype, myth and social conscience. A selection of the works created by the collective within the last two years will be on display. Among the items featured will be The "Kali Edition". This book was hand produced in a limited edition of 9 numbered copies with 3 additional Artist Proofs (AP). The edition contains six works each by each of the artists housed in hand made clamshell case lettered in gold leaf. One of the signed copies has a new home in the beautiful State Library of Victoria, located in Melbourne, Australia.
The Kali Collective began in 2010 as an experiment in the use of social media to produce collaborative work without the need for a defined home base. The social media platforms and blogs have been used to invite other artists into as virtual collaborative spaces and have resulted in several international projects exhibited in cities around the world.
More information on the Seeking Kali Collective can be found on their website: www.seekingkali.com
