Junzaburo Iwasawa works with a sense of time’s passage.
His fascination with visible duration began in childhood, documenting the lifespans of insects and flowers, which are short but dramatic. The subject matter was the witnessing of points within a life – birth, transformation, death- and their specific emotional changes.
Emotions can be expressed through colors and shapes. By observing life, drawing is a way to appreciate and connect to the world.
In this exhibition, Iwasawa is trying to enable the viewer to see his process of observation. By focusing on the traces made, importance is placed not on creating an image to decorate a physical space, but upon decorating time itself. This weaving of experience invites viewers to take the artist’s memories as their own, through a visual sharing of moments traced.
