Event Description

This November, Agora Gallery will cover remarkable ground within contemporary art through Divergent Realities and Illumination: An Exhibition of Fine Art Photography. The exhibition Divergent Realities is a collection of six artists with uniquely well-defined visual languages. Comprising a detailed watercolor artist, a realist pencil draftsman, a surrealist, a graphic landscape artist, and two abstract painters, the small group is completely different from one another in its concerns and experiments, yet exist in harmony. Illumination features a similarly wide-ranging group of photographers, with abstraction, action, still life, and landscape all included. We see forests, libraries, skyscrapers, lions, and highways. The artists are plainly well-traveled and knowledgeable, and bring their learning to bear on the work. Every photograph on display offers a contemporary view of the world while still referencing the long, socially loaded history of the medium. Both a science and an art form, photography is pushed to its boundaries in Illumination. Together, Agora Gallery's November exhibitions offer the cutting edge in today's art.

Both exhibitions open November 8, 2016 and run through November 30, 2016. There will be an opening reception on Thursday, November 10, 2016. Entrance is free.
