The New Jersey Arts Incubator is proud to present its first contemporary art exhibition featuring the work of four women: Lisa Suss, Circe Dunnell, Beatrice Coron and Lorena La Grassa
Divergent media come to the fore in an exhibition of mixed-media work on display from October 24th through December 24th at New Jersey Arts Incubator Gallery at 495 Prospect Avenue, Essex Green Shopping Center, West Orange, NJ. Thursday – Sunday 12pm to 5pm and also open by appointment. Meet the artists at the reception: Sunday, December 6 from 6 to 8.
This outstanding exhibit, curated by Lorena La Grassa, showcases works that express personal, public and secret qualities through the manipulation of paint, mixed media and found objects. Lisa Suss presents a series of collages and assemblages, addressing our perception of current controversial topics. The works are created from artifacts of contemporary life, often toys and games, as well as images of maps, sky and weather. Circe Dunnell exhibits a series of giclee prints with pigment dyed encaustic. She bases her construction on her interest in architectural, urban and organic structural scenes. Juxtaposed to these images are encaustic whirlpools of color that represent the beginnings of organic composition. Beatrice Coron’s extraordinary cut paper work tells stories. For each theme, she explores various narratives: one story leads to the next. Through the use of visual elements and fiber in a three dimensional setting, Lorena La Grassa explores the concept of metamorphosis in the process of creation using also elements like ceramics within the context of her installation work.
“Four Women: Stories in Mixed Media” brings to light the profound inspiration and varied resources in the local art scene. It combines the work of these local multi-media artists in a powerful, vibrant alchemy. In addition, it serves to highlight the many roles the New Jersey Arts Incubator fills for artists.
