Event Description

1964: Born in Hitoyoshi City, Kumamoto, Japan

1967: Started calligraphy at 3 years old, at her mother’s calligraphic school

1982: After graduating from high school, entered the School of Japan Calligraphy and Art and studied under Saisui Ishibashi (石橋 犀水), the founder and then principal, recommended by Seppo Kawachi (河内 雪峰), her great uncle and former judge of Mainichi Calligraphic Competition (毎日書道展)

*While at the School, received many awards for excellence including at All Japan Student Calligraphic Competitions and competitions sponsored by the Japan Society of Calligraphic Education

1985-(present): After graduating from the School cum laude, acted as an independent calligrapher and made many unique works

The basic concept of Sakon’s works is ‘easy-to-read, delightful and vigorous’, using multiple calligraphies in a single work.
This work is somewhat stereoscopic with some shading, and aims at the elegance of the characters.

Sakon lives in Ueda City, Nagano, Japan
