BROOKLYN, NY- Pratt MFA student Matthew Robinson is pleased to announce his first solo exhibition,
Industrial Society and Its Future Failure. An opening reception will take place on Friday, March 4th,
2011 from 7:30-11pm at RePop, an art salon featuring curious oddities and mid-century furnishings. The
exhibit will be on view through March 30, 2011
The show will include twelve 48" by 48" squares of mixed media collage, acrylic and oil paint. The pieces
incorporate fragments of objects, history, architecture and critique 'progress' and backwards thinking.
In his youth, Robinson watched homes replace forest and fields in his hometown in rural Connecticut. To
him this represented decreased freedom and a system that rewards destruction, a disregard for
aesthetics, community ideals, and environmental sustainability. He holds the idea that when an
individual grows up out of the metropolitan grid system the industrial world appears less natural and
more disturbing in contrast. Robinson builds a painting around these ideas and pieces of photographs he
has taken and attempts to make sense of things that do not make sense.
