My art studio will be open with new works on display this Saturday & Sunday 12-6 - along with about 60 other open studios and a group show in the gallery (where my 1,537-piece gummi bear mosaic light box will be on display). Enrico Miguel Thomas (my studio mate), who was just featured in last Thursday's NYTimes, will be showing work as well. Hope to see you there!
And - don't miss performances by topnotch dancers/performance artists:
Tony Orrico - "Penwald: 4: unison symmetry standing (3 hours)"
Time: Sat, 1-4pm
A former member of Trisha Brown Dance Company and Shen Wei Dance Arts, Mr. Orrico's work "Penwald: 2: 8 Circles" was recently commissioned by the National Academy of Sciences for a performance at the Keck Center Atrium and as an addition to their permanent art collection. Mr. Orrico will perform a 3-hour live drawing in the hallway of Screwball Spaces.
Charles Dennis - "Wizard of Id"
Time: Sat & Sun, 4-6pm
A co-founder of P.S. 122, Robert Wilson collaborator, and fellowship recipient from the National Endowment for the Arts, Mr. Dennis will be performing his latest performance/video work, an innovative, multi-media piece that explores the magic of live flimmaking. Mr. Dennis performs for the screen and with the screen in a magical romp through a dazzling visual landscape.
Vanessa Justice - [Improv Study]
A choreographer and performer, Ms. Justice has staged works in and been commissioned by venues in various US cities and abroad. She just returned from San Diego, where she toured her recent multimedia contemporary dance FLATLAND, which premiered at Joyce SoHo last fall. She has been an Artist-in-Residence at Joyce SoHo, Liguria Study Center, SEAD, Movement Research, and Yaddo.
